CHAPTER 2 — THE FIRST DOMINO

The silence that followed Elena's final whisper was heavier than any scream.

Her phone remained against her ear for another second before she lowered it with perfect composure.

The husband stared at her, unable to process what he had just heard.

"What did you do?" he asked, his voice no longer confident.

Elena didn't answer immediately.

Instead, she picked up the silver suitcase and walked toward the panoramic windows overlooking the city. The blue reflections from the skyline danced across the glossy black floor beneath her heels.

Then—

A soft vibration echoed from the husband's pocket.

His phone.

He pulled it out.

One notification.

Then another.

Then ten more.

Every bank account connected to his investment company had been frozen pending an ownership verification initiated by the board.

His smile disappeared completely.

"This... this has to be some mistake."

Elena finally turned around.

"No."

She folded her arms.

"It's called preparation."

The mistress looked from Elena to the husband.

"What is happening?"

The husband ignored her, desperately dialing his attorney.

Straight to voicemail.

His financial advisor.

No answer.

His chief accountant.

The call disconnected after one ring.

A second notification arrived.

BOARD OF DIRECTORS: Emergency Vote Completed.

CEO Status: Terminated.

His breathing became uneven.

"You planned this..."

Elena's expression never changed.

"For two years."

She stepped closer.

"While you were lying to me..."

"...I was learning everything."

Every shell company.

Every hidden account.

Every illegal transfer.

Every signature.

Every weakness.

"You thought I was staying because I was afraid."

She looked directly into his eyes.

"I stayed because I wasn't finished."

Outside, another black SUV pulled into the driveway.

This time, uniformed investigators stepped out.

The husband slowly realized—

May you like

They weren't there for Elena.

They were there for him.
