CHAPTER 5 — Falling Kingdoms

CHAPTER 5 — Falling Kingdoms

By morning, Matthew Rivas no longer existed in the world he had built.

His name was removed from every board.

His accounts frozen.

His assets seized.

His company dismantled piece by piece under regulatory fire he never saw coming.

But none of that mattered anymore.

Because I was no longer in the penthouse.

I was in a private medical facility overlooking the East River.

Clean sheets.

Quiet rooms.

No glass.

No orchids.

No cane.

My father sat beside me for the first time in seven years.

He didn’t ask why I stayed away.

He didn’t say I told you so.

He only said:

“You called.”

I nodded slightly.

“I should’ve called sooner.”

“No,” he replied. “You called when you survived long enough to do it.”

A silence settled between us.

Not heavy.

Just honest.

After a while, I asked:

“Is he… gone?”

My father understood immediately.

“He’s not your concern anymore.”

Outside the window, the city moved on as if nothing had happened.

But something fundamental had shifted.

Not in Manhattan.

In me.

And for the first time in years, I believed the next breath belonged to me—not to fear, not to silence, not to him.

It belonged to the life I was finally going to rebuild.

FINAL LINE (American English Ending)

That night, as the city lights blurred across the river, I closed my eyes and realized something I hadn’t understood for seven years:

May you like

I hadn’t been waiting to be saved.

I had been waiting to remember that I was never powerless at all.
