Three weeks later...
Daniel requested a meeting.
Elena agreed.
One meeting.
Ten minutes.
Nothing more.
They met in the same restaurant where he had proposed years earlier.
He looked exhausted.
Older.
Broken.
"I made the biggest mistake of my life."
Elena remained silent.
"I loved you."
She smiled sadly.
"No."
"You loved what I built for you."
He lowered his head.
"I was blind."
"You were proud."
"I can change."
She gently pushed a folder across the table.
He opened it.
It wasn't a divorce settlement.
It was the final divorce decree.
Already signed.
Already approved.
"There isn't anything left to fix," she said.
Tears filled his eyes.
"I'll never forgive myself."
She stood.
"You don't have to."
"But I already have."
