I didn’t remember being lifted.
Only the feeling of warmth.
Safety.

A hospital room replaced the mansion.
Soft lights.
Clean sheets.
A nurse checking my vitals.
My father sat beside me.
“You should’ve told me sooner,” he said quietly.
“I was afraid you would burn the world for me.”
He looked at me.
“I would.”
A pause.
Then softer:
“But I’m glad I didn’t have to.”
Santiago and Beatriz were arrested that night.
Not for abuse alone.
For conspiracy, fraud, and attempted unlawful custody transfer.
But justice didn’t feel like victory.
