Chapter 1: The Evidence No One Could Escape
The hospital room fell silent as Judge Vance held up his official credentials.
The police officer immediately lowered his hand from the mother's shoulder and turned toward the older woman.
"Nobody leaves this room," Judge Vance ordered calmly.
The older woman's confidence disappeared.
"You don't understand," she stammered. "She's unstable. She attacked me."
Judge Vance didn't respond. Instead, he pointed toward the security camera mounted above the hospital bed.
"The hospital's surveillance system records both video and audio," he said. "I've already requested the footage."
A hospital administrator rushed into the room carrying a tablet.
Within seconds, everyone watched the recording.
The video clearly showed the older woman demanding the mother sign the custody papers. It captured the mother's refusal, the violent slap, the baby being ripped from her arms, and the older woman's fake cries for help.
The room became painfully quiet.
The nurse covered her mouth in disbelief.
The police officer slowly walked toward the older woman.
