Chapter 2: Evidence Never Panics

Chapter 2: Evidence Never Panics
The ambulance doors slammed shut behind me as paramedics fought to stabilize my breathing.
Through the rear windows I watched officers place Margaret in handcuffs.
She screamed loud enough for the entire neighborhood to hear.
"She's lying! She set us up!"
Rebecca simply held up her phone.
"No."
She pressed play.
Margaret's own voice filled the rainy night.
"Die quietly, trash."
Then—
"So my son can collect your life insurance."
Officer after officer stopped what they were doing.
No one said a word.
Daniel stared at the ground.
Rebecca wasn't finished.
The second hidden camera activated.
This angle clearly showed Daniel removing my EpiPen from his jacket before dinner.
The timestamp proved everything.
His attorney, who had arrived after receiving Daniel's desperate phone call, quietly lowered his briefcase.
"I advise my client not to speak."
Daniel ignored him.
"Evelyn...please..."
I removed the oxygen mask just long enough to whisper four words.
"I warned you once."
His face turned pale.
Months earlier I had told him:
"If you ever try to make me disappear, make sure there isn't evidence."
May you like
He had laughed.
Now the joke belonged to me.
