Chapter 2 – The Evidence
Several hours later, the emergency room doctor returned with the examination results.
"The little boy has a mild concussion," she explained.
"He'll recover, but he should have been brought in much sooner."
David felt his stomach sink.
The doctor then looked at Sarah.
"You've fractured your nose."
Sarah nodded quietly.
"I figured."
David stared at her.
"You knew?"
"I didn't want to make a bigger scene."
Those words shattered him.
The following morning, David requested the home's security footage.
Minute after minute played across the screen.
Sarah stumbled while carrying their son after slipping on toys scattered across the floor.
She cried out for help.
The two women looked up.
They saw everything.
Then one shrugged.
The other laughed at something on her phone.
Neither of them got up.
For nearly twelve minutes, Sarah struggled alone to comfort her injured child while trying to stop the bleeding herself.
David couldn't watch anymore.
He closed the laptop.
Without saying a word, he called both women into the living room.
"I trusted you with my family."
His voice was calm now.
"And you failed them."
The older woman finally whispered,
"We didn't think it was that serious."
David shook his head.
"That's exactly the problem."
"You didn't think."

That afternoon, he asked both women to leave his home.
Neither one argued.
