Chapter 4 – Justice Arrives

Chapter 4 – Justice Arrives
Six months later, the trial came to an end.
The courtroom was filled with journalists, business leaders, and survivors who had waited years to see justice served.
The judge read the verdict slowly.
"Guilty."
"Guilty."
"Guilty."
Every charge was proven.
Domestic violence.
Attempted coercion.
Document forgery.
Financial conspiracy.
Insurance fraud.
Santiago was sentenced to decades in federal prison.
Beatriz received her own prison sentence for participating in the scheme.
As deputies led them away, Santiago looked back at me one last time.
"You ruined everything."
I calmly shook my head.
"No."
"You confused power with ownership."
"You thought love meant control."
"You were wrong."
He lowered his eyes for the first time.
Not in anger.
May you like
Not in pride.
In defeat.
