Chapter 1 – The Man They Never Expected
For the first time since I had met him, Santiago Rivas looked uncertain.
His smug smile disappeared as his eyes locked onto the tall man standing in the doorway.
Ricardo Salazar.
The billionaire entrepreneur rarely appeared in public anymore. When he did, newspapers described him as calm, calculated, and impossible to intimidate.
Tonight, however, there was nothing calm about him.
His gaze went directly to my bruised cheek before settling on the trembling hands covering my pregnant belly.
The silence inside the mansion became unbearable.
Beatriz forced a laugh.
"I'm afraid you've come to the wrong house."
Ricardo didn't even acknowledge her.
He walked straight toward me.
"Valeria."
His voice softened.
"My little girl."
The words shattered every wall I had built around myself.
For two years, I had insisted on facing life alone.
Now, seeing my father standing before me, I finally allowed myself to cry.
He gently touched my shoulder.
"I'm sorry," he whispered.
"I should have found you sooner."
Santiago cleared his throat.
"Mr. Salazar...this is a misunderstanding."
Ricardo slowly turned toward him.
"No."
His voice was icy.
"This is a crime."
One of the attorneys stepped forward carrying a tablet.
"Everything that happened during the last forty-three minutes has been recorded," she announced.
"The livestream has already been secured and copied to multiple servers."
Santiago's confidence cracked.
"What recording?"
Another attorney placed several documents on the marble table.
"The forged psychiatric evaluations."
"The fraudulent custody petition."
"The insurance policies naming Mr. Rivas as sole beneficiary."
Beatriz's face lost all color.
"You had no right to access those."
"I had every right," I answered quietly.
"They were prepared using my forged signature."
Ricardo looked toward the security guards.
"No one leaves this house."
Within seconds every entrance was secured.
