Chapter 2: The Betrayal Exposed

Chapter 2: The Betrayal Exposed
The woman's husband finally stepped forward.
Instead of concern...
He looked annoyed.
"You've caused enough drama."
His wife stared at him in disbelief.
"You watched them lock me outside."
"You heard me screaming."
"You did nothing."
He shrugged.
"I thought you'd come back inside eventually."
The room erupted with whispers.
Several guests exchanged horrified looks.
The man who had rescued her slowly reached into his coat.
Everyone expected him to call the police.
Instead...
He removed a leather wallet.
Inside was an official identification badge.
"I'm Special Prosecutor Daniel Hayes."
Every face turned pale.
"I was invited here tonight to investigate financial crimes involving this estate."
He closed the wallet.
"I never expected to witness something even worse."
He looked directly at the husband.
"You ignored your wife's cries for help."
Then at the older woman.
"You ordered the doors locked."
Finally at the security guards standing nearby.
"And every one of you obeyed."
His voice echoed through the mansion.
"Congratulations."
May you like
"You've all become witnesses in a criminal investigation."
The smug confidence vanished from every face.
