Chapter 1: The Footage Never Lies

Chapter 1: The Footage Never Lies
The maid's cries echoed across the quiet neighborhood long after the police car disappeared into the darkness.
"I swear I didn't take anything!"
No one listened.
Standing on the front steps of the luxurious Harrington estate, Victoria Harrington brushed an invisible speck of dust from her silk sleeve.
"Some people simply can't resist temptation," she said coldly.
The officers nodded politely before driving away.
But someone else hadn't left.
Daniel Harrington.
Victoria's husband.
He had returned home earlier than expected after a canceled business trip. Instead of walking through the front door, he entered through the security office located beside the garage. Years ago, after a series of break-ins, Daniel had insisted on installing cameras in every hallway, entrance, and storage room.
Few people remembered they existed.
Victoria certainly didn't.
Daniel frowned as he rewound the recordings from that evening.
At first everything looked ordinary.
The maid, Sofia Alvarez, finished cleaning the dining room before carrying fresh towels upstairs.
Minutes later...
Victoria quietly entered the master bedroom.
She looked over both shoulders.
Opened the jewelry safe.
Removed an emerald necklace worth nearly half a million dollars.
Then...
She walked directly into the maid's bedroom.
Daniel's heartbeat slowed.
Victoria slipped the necklace beneath Sofia's mattress.
She smiled.
Not a nervous smile.
A satisfied one.
Exactly six minutes later, she called the police.
"My maid has stolen from me."
Daniel stared silently at the screen.
Then another recording caught his attention.
Victoria wasn't acting alone.
A man wearing black gloves entered through the kitchen entrance moments before the accusation.
Daniel zoomed in.
The man hugged Victoria.
Not like friends.
Like lovers.
Daniel's face hardened.
"This wasn't about a necklace..."
"It was a setup."
He grabbed his phone and sprinted toward the front yard just as Victoria was greeting several curious neighbors.
She turned confidently.
"Daniel, thank goodness you're home. That thief—"
He shoved the phone inches from her face.
"Explain this."
The color drained from her face.

For the first time in years...
Victoria Harrington looked afraid.
