Chapter 2: A Family Divided

The next morning, Ethan stormed into his father's office.

Richard Caldwell barely looked up from his desk.

"So," he said calmly. "The baby lived."

Ethan slammed the DNA report onto the polished wood.

"He's my son."

"I already assumed he was."

Ethan froze.

"You... knew?"

Richard folded his hands.

"I never doubted the child."

"Then why?"

The older man's expression remained cold.

"I wanted to see whether Olivia truly belonged in this family."

Ethan's anger exploded.

"You nearly killed her!"

Richard stood.

"A weak woman doesn't survive in this family."

"No," Ethan replied quietly.

"A cruel man doesn't deserve one."

For the first time in years, Ethan walked away from his father's wealth.

He resigned from the family company that afternoon.

Friends called him insane.

Investors predicted he'd fail.

But Ethan no longer cared about inheritances, luxury homes, or board meetings.

He cared about the tiny heartbeat sleeping inside a nursery.

And the woman who had nearly given her life to protect it.

Together, Ethan and Olivia moved into a modest house on the edge of town.

It wasn't grand.

The roof leaked during heavy rain.

The furniture didn't match.

But every room echoed with laughter instead of fear.
