CHAPTER 3 — The Truth Hidden Behind the Marriage

CHAPTER 3 — The Truth Hidden Behind the Marriage
An hour later...
Claire stood inside the master bedroom placing baby clothes into a suitcase.
Every tiny folded blanket reminded her why she had stayed.
Not because she was weak.
Because she believed a child deserved two parents.
Richard quietly entered the room.
He placed another envelope beside her luggage.
"I should have given you this years ago."
Inside were medical reports.
Bank transfers.
Private investigator notes.
Claire frowned.
"What is this?"
Richard answered with visible regret.
"The truth."
For three years...
Margaret had secretly paid doctors to exaggerate Claire's medical complications.
She wanted Ethan to believe his wife was emotionally unstable.
At the same time...
Margaret had arranged business contracts only if Ethan continued following her instructions.
Every promotion.
Every investment.
Every success Ethan believed he had earned...
Had been purchased by his mother.
Richard spoke quietly.
"My son didn't become cruel overnight."
"He became dependent."
"And then he confused obedience with strength."
Claire looked toward the nursery.
"So... everything was manipulated?"
Richard nodded.
"Almost."
She looked up.
"What wasn't?"
Richard's answer came immediately.
"You."
"You were the only honest thing in his life."
Claire closed the envelope.
For the first time in years...
She stopped wondering whether the marriage could still be saved.
May you like
It couldn't.
Because it had never truly belonged to only two people.
