CHAPTER 2 — The Daughter He Chose

The foyer fell into absolute silence.

Even the grandfather clock against the marble wall seemed to stop ticking.

Richard Whitmore never raised his voice.

He didn't have to.

The four bodyguards quietly spread through the entrance, blocking every exit without appearing aggressive. They simply stood there, hands folded in front of them, their expressions unreadable.

Ethan stared at his father.

"Dad... this is between my wife and my mother."

Richard slowly turned toward him.

"No."

A long pause.

"This ended the moment you hit a pregnant woman."

Nobody breathed.

Margaret, Ethan's mother, finally descended the staircase with measured elegance.

"Richard," she said calmly. "You're embarrassing this family."

Richard looked at her for several seconds before speaking.

"No."

"You embarrassed this family."

He removed a leather folder from beneath his arm.

"I've watched security footage from every camera in this house."

Ethan's face drained of color.

Margaret's confident smile faded.

Richard pressed a button on his phone.

Hidden speakers throughout the mansion came alive.

The recording filled the foyer.

Margaret's cold voice echoed through the room.

"Hit her if she refuses to apologize."

Then Ethan answered.

"I know."

"I'll make sure she learns."

Claire slowly covered her mouth.

She had secretly hoped there was some misunderstanding.

There wasn't.

Richard closed the recording.

His eyes settled on his son.

"I spent thirty years building this family's reputation."

"You destroyed yours in thirty seconds."

He turned toward Claire.

"Pack only what matters."

"You are leaving this house today."

Ethan stepped forward.

"You can't take my wife."

May you like

Richard met his eyes.

"Watch me."
