One year later...
Ward Global had doubled its value.
Employee profit-sharing became permanent.
Scholarship programs expanded across the country.
My grandfather's dream had become larger than even he imagined.
During the annual shareholders' meeting, I stood before thousands of employees.
"When my grandfather built this company," I began, "he believed success meant lifting others with you."
The audience erupted into applause.
I continued,
"We will never measure our worth by the size of our buildings."
"We'll measure it by the number of lives we improve."
That afternoon, a young intern stopped me outside the elevator.
"I want to become a leader like you."
I smiled.
"No."
