Three weeks later...
Daniel requested a meeting.
Against my better judgment...
I agreed.
He looked older.
The expensive suits were gone.
So was the arrogance.
"I made a mistake."
"You made hundreds."
"I was manipulated."
I raised an eyebrow.
"By Chloe."
I almost laughed.
"So now betrayal hurts?"
His shoulders dropped.
"I lost everything."
I leaned back.
"No."
"You lost borrowed success."
Silence filled the room.
Finally he whispered,
"I never stopped loving you."
I looked at him for a long moment.
Then answered with complete honesty.
"That's the tragedy."
"You never started."
