Inside the mansion's grand library, Carter sat alone, surrounded by documents.
Every lie he had built was collapsing.
The woman in the sparkling dress paced nervously.
"You promised everything belonged to you!"
"It did!" Carter shouted.
"It was supposed to!"
The doors suddenly opened.
Emily entered with her father.
Behind them stood federal investigators.
One investigator placed a recorder on the table.
"We intercepted every phone call from the last six months."
The room froze.
The recording began.
Carter's own voice echoed through the speakers.
"I'll divorce Emily after the baby is born."
"I've already moved the money."
"She'll never know."
The other woman slowly stepped backward.
"You used me..."
Carter looked at her helplessly.
"No... wait..."
But she was already walking away.
