He pushed open the nursery door, expecting a quiet evening. But the sight before him made his blood run cold.

"He pushed open the nursery door, expecting a quiet evening. But the sight before him made his blood run cold."

A scream ripped through the peaceful suburban home.

"You'll regret this!"

His mother had seized his young, exhausted wife by the hair, smashing her head against the sturdy wooden crib.

Again.

And again.

The baby cried in panic from inside, tiny hands reaching out beneath a blanket covered with little stars.

For one frozen moment, the tall, broad-shouldered man couldn't move.

Tears of disbelief rolled from his bloodshot eyes.

Then the disbelief exploded into pure fury—a father's instinct to protect.

He charged forward.

His powerful body crossed the room in seconds as he shoved his mother away, sending her crashing into the massive mahogany armoire.

His wife crumpled onto the floor, trembling and sobbing.

Standing between the crib and the woman who had given him life, he became an unshakable shield.

His chest rose and fell rapidly.

His fists tightened.

His eyes burned with uncontrollable anger.

"DON'T COME ANY CLOSER!" he bellowed.
