Chapter 3: The Mistress Breaks

Chapter 3: The Mistress Breaks

That afternoon, Sophie finally resurfaced.

Not in luxury.

Not in victory.

But in a cheap hotel room at the edge of the city.

She was crying when my security brought her in.

Mascara streaked. Hair undone. Hands shaking.

She didn’t look at me when she entered.

“I didn’t know,” she whispered immediately. “I swear, I didn’t know who you were.”

I studied her silently.

“You knew enough,” I said.

Her voice cracked.

“He told me you were nothing. That you were weak. Disposable.”

I tilted my head slightly.

“And you believed him.”

Silence.

She swallowed hard.

“He said he would leave you. That we would build something together.”

I almost smiled.

“Lucas doesn’t build,” I said.

“He uses.”

Her breathing became uneven.

“I’m pregnant,” she said suddenly, like it was a shield.

I looked at her stomach.

Then back at her eyes.

“And?”

That single word shattered her composure completely.

Tears fell harder.

“I have nowhere to go.”

For a moment, the room was quiet.

Then I spoke.

“You should have thought about that before you stood beside him while he destroyed another woman.”

I turned toward the door.

But before leaving, I added—

“This isn’t punishment, Sophie.”

I paused.

May you like

“It’s consequence.”

And I walked out.
