The emergency board meeting began at sunrise.
Every executive from Sterling Global Holdings occupied a seat around the enormous walnut conference table.
Margaret entered wearing another flawless designer suit.
Her makeup perfectly concealed the panic underneath.
She expected sympathy.

She found Daniel sitting in the chairman's seat.
Beside him sat two unexpected guests.

The directors exchanged confused glances.
Margaret forced a smile.
"Daniel, surely this family disagreement doesn't belong in a board meeting."
"It isn't a family disagreement."
Daniel placed a thick binder on the table.
"It's corporate fraud."
The room instantly fell silent.
Margaret's expression faltered.
Daniel opened the binder.
"Over the past eighteen months, my mother secretly redirected charitable foundation funds through six shell corporations."
He slid copies toward each director.
"The money financed illegal acquisitions registered under private trusts."
One executive adjusted his glasses.
"This... this totals nearly four hundred million dollars."
Another looked stunned.
"The signatures..."
Daniel nodded.
"They're genuine."
Margaret slammed both hands onto the table.
"You have no idea how corporations work!"
"I do."
Daniel slid one final document forward.
"The forensic audit was completed yesterday."
He looked directly at her.
"I ordered it three months ago."
Her breathing stopped.
"You... investigated me?"
"I investigated financial irregularities."
He paused.
"I never imagined they would lead to my own mother."
The independent auditors began presenting evidence.
Emails.
Wire transfers.
Forged approvals.
Secret property purchases.
Every layer peeled away another piece of Margaret's carefully crafted reputation.
Then Ava quietly spoke.

Everyone turned.
She placed the blue leather folder onto the table.
"The trust documents."
Margaret's face drained of color.
Ava continued.

"If any beneficiary attempts coercion or fraud regarding this inheritance..."
The attorney finished reading aloud.
"...that beneficiary permanently forfeits all claims against the Sterling-Kane Family Trust."
Margaret staggered backward.
She had spent months trying to steal Ava's inheritance.
