Within minutes, security arrived.
Margaret expected them to escort Rosa away.
Instead, Daniel gave a different order.
"No one leaves this estate."
The family attorney, Victor Hale, arrived twenty minutes later.
Margaret immediately regained confidence.
"Victor," she smiled. "Tell my son these papers are perfectly legal."
Victor accepted the folder.
Then Daniel placed a small digital recorder on the desk.
"I found this inside Ava's wheelchair."
Ava looked surprised.
"I forgot it was there..."
She had begun recording voice notes weeks earlier after repeatedly forgetting conversations due to the medication Margaret insisted she take.
Daniel pressed Play.
Margaret's voice filled the room.
"If she refuses to sign, double the dosage."
Another voice.
"What if Daniel finds out?"
"He won't. He trusts me more than his own wife."
Silence consumed the study.
Victor slowly removed his glasses.
Margaret's face lost all color.
Daniel pressed another recording.
A slap.
Ava crying.
Margaret speaking again.
"No one will believe a cripple over me."
Daniel stopped the recording.
His voice was almost inaudible.
"I did."
