CHAPTER 13 — Diego’s Revenge: The Empire Strikes Back

The night that changed everything ended with one promise.

Not a business promise.

Not a billionaire’s negotiation.

Not a deal written on paper.

A father’s promise.

And Diego Villaseñor never broke his promises.

The moment Valentina was back in his arms, Diego realized something.

For years, people had feared his name because of his power.

They feared his companies.

His money.

His influence.

But none of those things mattered when someone threatened his daughter.

Because money could rebuild a company.

Power could be regained.

A reputation could be repaired.

But childhood?

Memories?

Time?

Those could never be returned.

And someone had stolen three years from him.

Three years from Valentina.

Three years from Marisol.

Now, he was done playing defense.

The Villaseñor mansion was surrounded by security before sunrise.

Every entrance was guarded.

Every employee was questioned.

Every device connected to the property was examined.

Nobody entered.

Nobody left.

Because Diego knew one thing.

The enemy had been inside his home.

And he wanted every person responsible.

In his private office, Diego sat across from Paulina.

For the first time, she looked different.

The confidence was gone.

The elegance remained.

But the control was gone.

Because she finally understood something.

She had not lost Diego because of Marisol.

She had lost him because she underestimated him.

“You knew.”

Diego’s voice was calm.

Paulina looked away.

“Knew what?”

“Everything.”

Silence.

“You knew about Valentina.”

Her fingers tightened.

“You knew Adrian deleted the messages.”

Silence.

“You knew Ricardo was involved.”

Still silence.

Diego leaned forward.

“Tell me I’m wrong.”

For a few seconds…

Paulina said nothing.

Then she laughed softly.

A broken laugh.

“You really want the truth?”

“Yes.”

“Fine.”

She looked directly at him.

“I knew.”

The admission felt heavier than any confession.

Because Diego had hoped she would deny it.

He had hoped there was some explanation.

Some misunderstanding.

Some mistake.

But there wasn’t.

She knew.

And she chose silence.

“Why?”

The question came quietly.

Not angry.

Not emotional.

Just disappointed.

Paulina’s expression changed.

“Because I loved you.”

Diego stared at her.

“No.”

His voice was firm.

“You loved the idea of owning my life.”

The words hurt.

Because they were true.

Paulina had never wanted a partner.

She wanted a position.

The Villaseñor name.

The influence.

The power.

And Valentina threatened all of it.

“You don’t understand what happened.”

Paulina stood.

“I was trying to protect what we had.”

Diego looked at her.

“What we had?”

A cold smile appeared.

“You destroyed my family to protect an engagement?”

Paulina became emotional.

“You were going to leave me.”

“No.”

Diego shook his head.

“You were never competing with Marisol.”

A pause.

“You were competing with the truth.”

Meanwhile…

Marisol sat in Valentina’s room.

Watching her daughter sleep.

Again.

Safe.

But unlike before…

She was not alone.

Diego stood at the doorway.

Watching them.

The scene felt impossible.

A few days ago, he had not known he had a daughter.

Now, he could not imagine his life without her.

“Are you angry with me?”

Marisol asked quietly.

Diego looked surprised.

“For what?”

“For hiding her.”

The question stayed between them.

“I know you deserved to know.”

A tear slipped down her cheek.

“I should have found another way.”

Diego walked closer.

For a moment, neither of them spoke.

Then he said:

“You were protecting her.”

Marisol looked up.

“I was scared.”

“I know.”

A pause.

“I was too.”

Those words surprised her.

Because Diego Villaseñor was never afraid.

But he admitted it.

He was afraid of losing his daughter again.

Afraid of failing her.

Afraid that the world he built had become the thing that hurt his family.

The next morning…

Diego made his move.

The first target?

Adrian.

The man who had betrayed him.

The man who had taken his trust and used it against him.

Adrian entered the Villaseñor headquarters expecting negotiation.

Instead…

He found investigators.

Lawyers.

And evidence.

Lots of evidence.

“Mr. Villaseñor.”

Adrian tried to remain calm.

“This is unnecessary.”

Diego looked at him.

“No.”

A pause.

“This is overdue.”

The documents were placed on the table.

Deleted messages.

Unauthorized access.

Secret communication.

Payments from outside accounts.

Adrian’s face changed.

“You don’t understand.”

Diego leaned back.

“Then explain.”

Adrian stayed silent.

Because there was nothing left to explain.

“You betrayed me.”

Diego’s voice became colder.

“You betrayed my trust.”

A pause.

“But the worst thing you did…”

His eyes hardened.

“You helped someone steal my daughter’s life.”

Adrian finally broke.

“It wasn’t supposed to happen like this.”

Diego looked at him.

“What does that mean?”

Adrian swallowed.

“Ricardo never wanted you to marry Paulina.”

A pause.

“He wanted someone else controlling the company.”

Diego narrowed his eyes.

“Who?”

Adrian hesitated.

Then whispered:

“Your younger brother.”

The room froze.

Diego slowly stood.

“My brother?”

Adrian nodded.

“He was supposed to inherit everything.”

“But I was chosen.”

“Yes.”

A pause.

“And Valentina changed the entire future.”

At that moment, Diego understood.

The attack was not only personal.

It was about power.

The Villaseñor empire.

The inheritance.

The future.

His daughter was not only a child to them.

She was an obstacle.

That night…

Diego gathered everyone in the mansion.

Marisol.

Valentina.

The family.

And those who had betrayed them.

Because he wanted everyone to hear the truth.

No more secrets.

No more hidden plans.

No more lies.

“I spent my entire life building this empire.”

Diego’s voice filled the room.

“But I made one mistake.”

Everyone listened.

“I believed protecting my company was the most important thing.”

He looked at Valentina.

“I was wrong.”

A pause.

“Protecting my family is.”

Then he turned toward Ricardo.

Paulina.

Adrian.

And everyone who had played a role.

“From today forward…”

His voice became cold.

“You are no longer fighting a businessman.”

Silence.

“You are fighting a father.”

Nobody spoke.

Because everyone understood.

The billionaire who once avoided personal battles…

Was now leading a war.

But as Diego thought the nightmare was ending…

His lawyer rushed into the room.

His face was pale.

“Mr. Villaseñor…”

Diego turned.

“What happened?”

The lawyer held a document.

“We found something else.”

A pause.

“Something about Valentina’s birth.”

Marisol immediately stood.

“What?”

The lawyer looked at her.

“Her birth records were altered.”

Everyone froze.

Diego stepped forward.

“Explain.”

The lawyer swallowed.

“According to these documents…”

A long pause.

“Valentina’s identity was changed before she was born.”

Diego looked at Marisol.

Confusion filled his eyes.

“Marisol…”

May you like

She looked terrified.

Because there was one secret even she had never known.
