CHAPTER 10 — The Secret From Marisol’s Past Returns

For the first time in years, Diego Villaseñor was afraid.

Not of losing money.

Not of losing power.

Not of losing his empire.

He had faced those things before.

But this was different.

Because now the enemy was not attacking his business.

They were attacking his family.

And the person he wanted to protect most…

Was a three-year-old girl who still believed the world was a safe place.

The investigation continued.

Every hour brought new information.

Every discovery created another question.

The truth about the deleted messages.

The hidden communication records.

The people who had worked behind the scenes to keep Diego away from Marisol and Valentina.

But one thing bothered him more than anything.

The name found inside Ricardo Villaseñor’s files.

A name connected to Marisol.

A name nobody expected.

That morning, Diego sat in his office staring at an old document.

A birth record.

Not Valentina’s.

Marisol’s.

His expression was unreadable.

Because what he had discovered made no sense.

“Why didn’t you tell me?”

The question came quietly.

But it carried years of pain.

Marisol stood across from his desk.

She already knew.

The moment Diego asked her to come in alone, she knew something had been found.

She looked at the paper.

Then lowered her eyes.

“Because I was ashamed.”

Diego frowned.

“Ashamed of what?”

She swallowed.

“Of where I came from.”

For years, Marisol had hidden something.

Not because she wanted to deceive him.

Because she was afraid.

Before she became a maid at the Villaseñor mansion…

Before she became Valentina’s mother…

She had another life.

A life she tried desperately to leave behind.

“My father…”

Her voice became weak.

“He was not a good man.”

Diego listened carefully.

“What does that have to do with this?”

Marisol looked at him.

“Everything.”

Marisol’s father had worked for powerful families.

Including the Villaseñor family.

But not as an equal.

He was a man who knew secrets.

A man who handled problems nobody wanted connected to their names.

And because of that…

He knew things.

Dangerous things.

Years ago, before Diego became the head of the empire, there was a conflict inside the Villaseñor family.

A conflict over control.

Over inheritance.

Over who would one day rule everything.

And Marisol’s father had been involved.

“I didn’t want Valentina connected to that world.”

Diego looked at her.

“What world?”

“The world where people destroy each other for money.”

A pause.

“The world you live in.”

The words hurt.

Because a part of Diego knew she was right.

His world had always been dangerous.

But he never imagined it could reach his own daughter.

“Your father knew Ricardo?”

Marisol nodded slowly.

“Yes.”

Diego’s expression darkened.

“How?”

“He worked with him.”

Silence.

The pieces started connecting.

Ricardo.

The deleted messages.

Marisol’s father.

The missing information.

Everything seemed connected.

But something still did not make sense.

“If your father knew Ricardo…”

Diego looked at her.

“Why would Ricardo hide my daughter?”

Marisol hesitated.

And that hesitation frightened him.

“Marisol.”

She closed her eyes.

“Because Ricardo knew something about Valentina before you did.”

The sentence hit him.

“What?”

Marisol looked devastated.

“When I was pregnant, someone came to me.”

“Who?”

She whispered:

“Ricardo.”

Three years earlier…

Marisol remembered the night clearly.

She was alone in a small apartment.

Pregnant.

Scared.

Holding the hope that Diego would come back.

Then someone knocked on her door.

When she opened it…

Ricardo Villaseñor was standing there.

A man she had only seen from a distance.

A man who looked at her like she was a problem.

Not a person.

“You need to understand something,” Ricardo had said.

“Diego cannot know about this child.”

Marisol was confused.

“What?”

Ricardo looked at her stomach.

“The baby.”

Her heart dropped.

“Why?”

His answer terrified her.

“Because if Diego knows, everything changes.”

Back in the present…

Diego’s hands tightened.

“He threatened you?”

Marisol looked away.

“He offered me money.”

Diego froze.

“How much?”

“A lot.”

“And you refused.”

She nodded.

“I refused.”

A pause.

“But then he said something that scared me.”

Diego leaned forward.

“What?”

Marisol’s voice became barely a whisper.

“He said if I told you, Valentina would never be safe.”

The room went silent.

Because suddenly, Diego understood.

Marisol had not hidden his daughter because she wanted control.

She had hidden her because she was protecting her.

But there was one thing he still did not understand.

“Why didn’t you tell me this before?”

Marisol’s eyes filled with tears.

“Because I thought you were part of it.”

Diego froze.

“What?”

She looked at him.

“When I tried to reach you, everything disappeared.”

A pause.

“I thought you knew.”

Those words hurt more than any accusation.

Because Diego realized something terrible.

Marisol had spent three years believing the man she loved abandoned her.

And he had spent three years believing she betrayed him.

Both of them had been victims.

That evening…

Diego confronted Ricardo.

The meeting happened inside the Villaseñor headquarters.

No lawyers.

No assistants.

Only family.

Ricardo sat calmly.

Almost amused.

“So.”

He smiled.

“You finally found out.”

Diego stared at him.

“You knew about Valentina.”

Ricardo did not deny it.

“Yes.”

The answer shocked him.

“You knew?”

Ricardo leaned back.

“For three years.”

Diego’s anger exploded.

“You kept my daughter away from me.”

Ricardo calmly replied:

“I protected this family.”

Diego stepped closer.

“You stole my family.”

Ricardo smiled.

“You still don’t understand.”

A pause.

“Valentina is not just your daughter.”

Diego frowned.

“What does that mean?”

Ricardo opened a drawer.

Pulled out another file.

And placed it on the table.

“There is something about Marisol you don’t know.”

Diego looked at the folder.

His instincts warned him.

But he opened it anyway.

Inside was a document.

A document that made his face lose all color.

Because the truth inside…

Changed everything.

Ricardo whispered:

“You think you found your missing daughter.”

A pause.

“But you still don’t know who her mother really is.”

That night…

Diego returned to the mansion with the file in his hand.

Marisol immediately knew.

Something was wrong.

“What happened?”

Diego looked at her.

And for the first time since discovering Valentina…

There was uncertainty in his eyes.

“Marisol…”

May you like

His voice was broken.

“What did you never tell me?”
