Tears streamed down the maid's face.
"I didn't want to do it..."
"Who made you?" the groom demanded.
The maid looked toward the mansion's balcony.
An elegant older woman slowly descended the staircase.
It was the groom's mother.
Every guest gasped.
She remained perfectly composed.
"I did."
The groom stared at her in disbelief.
"Mother..."
She folded her hands calmly.
"That woman isn't worthy of this family."
The bride stood frozen.
"You framed me?"
"I protected my grandson," the older woman replied. "If she became your wife, she'd replace his mother forever."
The groom clenched his fists.
"So you terrified my son... just to stop my wedding?"
His mother never denied it.
"I only needed him out of the ceremony long enough for you to question her."
The maid lowered her head.
"I was afraid of losing my job."
The groom looked at the frightened employee.
"You could've told me the truth."
"I was scared."
The little boy suddenly walked toward the bride.
She knelt and hugged him tightly.
"I'm so sorry you went through this."
The child whispered,
"I knew you wouldn't leave me."
