Part 2 — The Wedding That Ended Before the First Dance

Part 2 — The Wedding That Ended Before the First Dance
No one breathed.
The silence stretched through the hallway until it became unbearable.
Adrian slowly removed the gold wedding band from his finger.
The tiny piece of metal struck the marble floor with a sharp, echoing clang.
His bride stared at it as if she couldn't understand what she was seeing.
"Adrian..."
"You have one chance," he said quietly.
"Tell me my son is lying."
She swallowed hard.
"He misunderstood."
"He was grieving."
"I was only trying to help him adjust."
Lena looked at her in disbelief.
"By locking him in a bedroom?"
The bride's composure finally cracked.
"He needed discipline!"
Her voice echoed through the mansion.
"Everything today was supposed to be perfect!"
"He wouldn't stop crying about his mother!"
Adrian's eyes darkened.
"My son lost his mother eight months ago."
"He wasn't ruining a wedding."
"He was surviving a heartbreak."
The guests below had begun gathering near the staircase, drawn by the shouting.
Whispers spread across the ballroom.
The bride looked around desperately.
"Please..."
"Don't embarrass me."
Adrian laughed once.
A cold, empty laugh.
"You should've worried about that before you terrified a six-year-old."
He bent down and picked up the wedding ring.
For one brief second...
She smiled, believing he had forgiven her.
Instead...
He placed the ring into her trembling hand.
"Our marriage lasted exactly fourteen minutes."
Then he turned toward his son.
Without another word, Adrian lifted the little boy into his arms.
For the first time that night...
The child stopped crying.

Because he finally felt safe.
Behind them, the bride collapsed onto the marble floor as hundreds of wedding guests watched the perfect ceremony dissolve into public ruin.
