Chapter 2 — Every Camera Was Watching

Chapter 2 — Every Camera Was Watching

Damien lunged toward me.

"You set me up!"

Before he could reach me—

CLICK.

Three laser sights settled on his chest.

He froze instantly.

The commander never raised his voice.

"One more step, sir."

"It will be your last."

Damien slowly lifted his shaking hands.

His father pushed through the crowd.

"Emily..."

"There has been a misunderstanding."

I laughed.

"A misunderstanding?"

"You watched your son slam me into a marble wall."

"You watched him threaten me."

"You watched everyone stay silent."

"And you did nothing."

He swallowed hard.

"We can settle this privately."

"No."

I nodded toward the ceiling.

Every screen inside the ballroom suddenly lit up.

Hidden camera footage.

Multiple angles.

Crystal-clear audio.

The assault replayed from beginning to end.

Every insult.

Every threat.

Every laugh.

The guests watched themselves.

Watching.

Doing nothing.

Many lowered their heads in shame.

Others quietly stepped away from the Blackwood family.

Then another video appeared.

Secret meetings.

Bribery.

Illegal contracts.

Money laundering.

Judges accepting cash.

Politicians exchanging favors.

Every file carried one signature.

Blackwood Industries.

Damien whispered,

"How long have you had this?"

May you like

I answered softly.

"Three years."
