Chapter 3: The Last Recording

Two days later, the hospital room is quiet except for the steady sound of machines.
The boy is awake.
Weak, but alive.
The father sits beside him, holding his hand tightly. The woman in the pink blouse stands near the door, not allowed closer yet, still under investigation.
A detective enters and places a small recovered SD card on the table.
“We managed to salvage part of the footage,” he says.
The father doesn’t speak. He just watches as the video plays.
At first: normal kitchen footage. The boy entering. The blue cup being placed on the counter.
Then a second figure appears.
Someone the camera didn’t fully catch before it was disabled.
But long enough to see them take something from the fridge… and return it later.
The father’s breath slows.
It wasn’t the woman.
It was someone who knew the house. Someone who knew the camera blind spot.
The video ends abruptly.
Silence fills the room again, but this time it’s different.
The father looks down at his son, then back at the screen.

And in a quiet, steady voice, he finally says:
“This isn’t over.”
