Chapter 1: The Unraveling Truth

The father doesn’t move for a second after dialing the number. The kitchen feels smaller now, like the walls are closing in. The boy’s breathing is shallow on the floor behind him.
The woman in the pink blouse finally breaks.
“I didn’t poison him,” she says quickly, her voice shaking. “I swear I didn’t know—”
“Then explain the cup,” the father interrupts, holding the evidence bag up between them.
Her eyes flick to it, then away. That hesitation says more than words ever could.
“I only gave him juice,” she whispers. “It was already mixed. I got it from the fridge. I thought it was safe.”
The father’s expression tightens. “From my fridge?”
She nods weakly. “Yes… the blue jug. On the top shelf.”
A new silence drops into the room—heavier this time.

Because there was no blue jug in the fridge.
Not anymore.
