Chapter 1: The Truth at Thirty Thousand Feet

The cabin felt smaller after the folder was opened.
Alexander stared at the medical report while Sophie slept peacefully beside Estelle.
For several seconds, nobody spoke.
Then he finally looked up.
"My fiancée arranged this medication."
The flight attendant lowered her eyes.
"The authorization came from her personal assistant."
Estelle folded her arms.
"Why would someone sedate a six-year-old child?"
Alexander didn't answer immediately.
Because deep down, he already knew.
Three months earlier, Sophie had inherited a trust fund from her late mother.
A trust worth nearly fifty million dollars.
If anything happened to Sophie, control of the money would eventually pass into Alexander's household after marriage.
The realization hit him like a punch.
"No..." he whispered.
But the evidence sat in his hands.
Cold.
Undeniable.
The flight attendant swallowed nervously.
"There's more."
Alexander looked up.
"The hospital reran Sophie's tests."
She handed him another page.
His face drained of color.
The sedative wasn't the only thing found in her bloodstream.
There were traces of another substance.
A dangerous medication that could trigger severe complications in children.
Estelle stared at the report.
"Someone's been giving this to her for weeks."
The words landed like a bomb.
Alexander suddenly sat down.
For the first time since she met him, he looked less like a billionaire and more like a terrified father.
"What have I done?" he whispered.
Estelle glanced toward Sophie.
"You trusted the wrong person."
Alexander nodded slowly.
"And I almost lost my daughter because of it."
For the rest of the flight, he never left Sophie's side.

Neither did Estelle.
And somewhere over the Atlantic Ocean, a strange partnership began.
