Part 1: The Bag That Changed Everything

The entire lobby suddenly felt smaller.

The woman in cashmere swallowed hard.

“GPS?” she repeated.

I nodded calmly.

“Yes.”

The lead guard looked uncertain for the first time.

I reached into my blazer pocket and pulled out my phone.

“Luxury bags this expensive come with ownership registration. Mine is linked to my account.”

I opened the app.

The screen immediately displayed:

Owner: Natalie Carter

Registered eight months ago

Location: In owner's possession

I held the phone up for everyone to see.

Several people moved closer.

The woman immediately shook her head.

“She could have forged that.”

I laughed.

Actually laughed.

Because now I understood exactly what was happening.

She hadn't expected resistance.

She expected fear.

She expected embarrassment.

She expected me to surrender.

Instead, she was watching her story collapse in real time.

“Great,” I said.

“Then let's make this easier.”

I looked at the guard.

“Please open the bag.”

The guard hesitated.

Then he slowly unzipped it.

One by one, he pulled everything out.

My laptop.

My notebook.

My meeting documents.

My company ID.

My prescription glasses.

A half-eaten granola bar.

An ugly emergency charger I'd owned for years.

Then he stopped.

At the bottom sat a small leather card holder.

He opened it.

Inside was my driver's license.

Natalie Carter.

My face.

My address.

Silence exploded louder than any scream.

The woman immediately began backing away.

“I… maybe I made a mistake.”

I turned toward her.

“A mistake?”

She said nothing.

“Three security guards nearly tackled me because of your mistake.”

The lobby had changed sides now.

Phones remained raised.

But they weren't recording me anymore.

They were recording her.

And suddenly she looked terrified.

Then a new voice spoke from behind us.

“What's going on here?”

Everyone turned.

The hotel general manager had arrived.

And judging by his expression…

Someone was about to have a very bad day.
