Chapter 2: The Secret Behind the Door

The door belonged to a community center that had been closed for years.

Recently, Emma's parents had purchased the abandoned building.

Her father, Daniel Carter, was one of the city's most successful entrepreneurs.

But unlike many wealthy people, Emma had inherited her mother's compassionate heart.

When Daniel arrived moments later, he found his daughter standing beside Lily.

Emma looked up at him.

"Dad, she has nowhere to go."

Daniel knelt in front of Lily.

"What's your name?"

"Lily."

"Do you have family?"

Lily lowered her eyes.

"No."

The answer broke everyone's heart.

Daniel took off his expensive wool scarf and gently wrapped it around her shoulders.

"No child should be alone."

Emma immediately grabbed Lily's hand.

"Can she stay with us tonight?"

Daniel exchanged a glance with his wife, Sophia, who had just arrived.

Without hesitation, Sophia smiled.

"Of course she can."

Lily couldn't believe it.

People had ignored her for months.

And now strangers were offering her warmth.

That evening, Lily sat at a dining table for the first time in years.

She ate soup.

Fresh vegetables.

Warm bread.

And for dessert, homemade apple pie.

Emma sat beside her the entire time.

Lily whispered, "Why are you being so kind to me?"

Emma shrugged.

"Because if I were alone, I'd want someone to help me too."

Lily's eyes filled with tears again.
