Chapter 4: The First Meal Back

They didn’t go back to the street.

They didn’t call anyone right away.

Instead, the woman led them to a small corner shop that was still open.

The boy and the girl stood near the entrance, unsure if they were allowed to exist inside a place like this.

The woman returned with bags.

Simple food.

Milk.

Bread.

Warm rice.

Nothing fancy.

But to the children, it felt unreal.

The boy didn’t eat immediately.

He opened the milk first and handed it to the girl.

“You first,” he said.

She hesitated.

Then drank.

Slowly.

Carefully.

Like she was afraid it might disappear.

The woman watched them from a few steps away.

Her expression wasn’t pity.

It was realization.

That some children don’t need saving in grand ways.

They just need someone to stay.
