Chapter 2: The Price Of Silence

Two weeks later.
The video had spread everywhere.
Millions of people watched the moment Margaret Pierce threw wine at her future daughter-in-law.
Pierce Holdings' reputation collapsed overnight.
Investors pulled away.
Business partners canceled meetings.
Nathan sat alone inside his office.
His phone rang nonstop.
Every call carried bad news.
Then his assistant entered.
"Sir… another investor withdrew."
Nathan leaned back and covered his face.
Everything was falling apart.
Not because Claire had attacked them.
Because truth had arrived.
Later that evening, he drove to Rosemont Grand Hotel.
Claire stood in the rooftop garden overlooking the city skyline.
She didn't turn around when he approached.
"I'm sorry," he said.
Silence.
He swallowed hard.
"I should have protected you."
Claire finally looked at him.
"You should have trusted me."
He nodded.
Tears filled his eyes.
"I know."
She spoke gently.
"You know what's painful, Nathan?"
He looked up.
"I never cared about your money."
She smiled sadly.
"I only wanted a partner."
He stared at her.
"But when I was attacked… you protected your comfort instead."
The words hit him harder than any insult.
Because they were true.
He had feared confronting his mother.
He had feared conflict.
And his silence had become betrayal.
Claire took a deep breath.
"I forgive you."
His eyes widened.
"But forgiveness doesn't always rebuild what was broken."
She extended her hand.
Not for love.
Not for reunion.
For closure.
He shook it.

And in that moment…
They both accepted that some endings are necessary.
