CHAPTER 2 — THE TRUTH NO ONE COULD DENY

CHAPTER 2 — THE TRUTH NO ONE COULD DENY
The church fell into complete silence.
Even the priest lowered his Bible.
The bride stood frozen, unable to process what she had just heard.
Daniel's face drained of color.
He opened his mouth several times, but no words came out.
The woman in the beige dress walked slowly toward the altar, clutching the plastic sleeve so tightly her knuckles had turned white.
"My name is Rebecca Lawson," she said, her voice trembling. "Daniel married me six years ago in Savannah."
She carefully removed the document.
"Our marriage certificate."
The priest accepted it with hesitant hands.
His eyes scanned the page.
His expression changed instantly.
"It's authentic," he whispered.
Gasps echoed through the church.
Daniel finally stepped forward.
"Rebecca... please..."
"No," she interrupted.
"For six years I've listened to your lies."
She turned toward the bride.
"I didn't know about you until last week."
Tears rolled down her cheeks.
"When I found your wedding announcement online, I realized everything."
The bride's bouquet slipped from her fingers.
White roses scattered across the marble floor.
Daniel reached for her.
She stepped back as though his touch would burn her.
"You told me your divorce was finalized," she whispered.
"You told me there was no one else."
Daniel buried his face in his hands.
"I can explain."
Rebecca shook her head.
"No."
Then she looked toward the back of the church.
"Emma."
The little girl slowly walked down the aisle.
She couldn't have been older than five.
She stopped beside Rebecca.
Looking up at Daniel with complete innocence, she smiled.
"Daddy... are we going home now?"
The silence that followed was louder than any scream.
There was nothing left to explain.
