CHAPTER 5 — The Sentence Without a Judge

CHAPTER 5 — The Sentence Without a Judge
Night had fallen by the time everything ended.
Outside, the estate was surrounded.
Inside, the blonde woman sat handcuffed—not on the floor where she had pushed someone—but in a chair that suddenly felt far too small.
She was no longer crying.
Only staring.
The pregnant woman stood by the window, looking out at the flashing lights below.
Detective Ruiz approached.
“Charges are clear,” he said. “Assault on a federal officer. Attempted harm of an unborn child. Obstruction. You want the full prosecution?”
She was silent for a moment.
Then she nodded once.
“Yes.”
A pause.
Ruiz hesitated.
“And you? Are you okay to continue field duty after this?”
The pregnant woman placed a hand over her stomach.
A faint kick responded.
A small, quiet life insisting on being heard.
“I didn’t fall,” she said softly. “I was pushed.”
She turned slightly, looking at the woman who now understood too late what she had done.
“And I always finish what gets started.”
ENDING
Three months later, headlines didn’t mention a pregnant woman on a staircase.
They mentioned the collapse of a private protection network inside elite society.
They mentioned arrests.
They mentioned corruption.
But they never mentioned the moment it began.
Because the real story wasn’t the fall.
