Chapter 6: The Last Recording

Chapter 6: The Last Recording

The family gathered in Ethan's study.

A detective inserted the flash drive into a laptop.

One video file appeared.

Recorded at 11:32 PM.

Claire looked exhausted.

Her eyes were swollen from crying.

But she looked directly into the camera.

"If you're watching this..."

"...I didn't leave willingly."

Ethan covered his mouth.

Claire continued.

"My mother-in-law discovered I knew about the foundation."

"I confronted her tonight."

"I recorded everything."

The video switched.

Hidden-camera footage.

Margaret stood inside the library.

Her voice was unmistakable.

"You should have stayed out of family business."

Claire answered calmly.

"I already emailed copies."

Margaret's face hardened.

"No one will believe you."

Then came shouting.

A struggle.

The picture shook violently.

Claire gasped.

The recording ended.

No death.

No graphic violence.

Just enough.

Enough to prove Claire had been telling the truth.

Enough to destroy every lie.

Detectives immediately placed Margaret under arrest for obstruction of justice, evidence tampering, unlawful confinement of a witness, and conspiracy pending the outcome of the reopened homicide investigation.

She never resisted.

As officers led her away, she looked at Ethan one last time.

"I did it for this family."

Ethan answered quietly.

May you like

"No."

"You destroyed it."
