Chapter 3: The Secret Hidden for Twenty-Two Years

Lily regained consciousness that afternoon.

She was weak.

Confused.

But when Detective Sarah Collins gently asked who put her in the dumpster, Lily answered without hesitation.

"Grandma said I had to go away."

The room fell silent.

Then Lily whispered something that made every adult stop breathing.

"Grandma said Mommy isn't really her daughter anymore... because Mommy isn't Daddy's child."

I looked at my mother.

She turned white.

Detective Collins immediately noticed.

"Explain."

My father suddenly stood up.

"Don't answer."

Too late.

The detective ordered DNA testing after noticing inconsistencies in old medical records my grandmother had mentioned years earlier.

Three days later, the results arrived.

The man who raised me...

wasn't my biological father.

My mother had hidden an affair for over twenty-two years.

Only she knew the truth.

She spent my entire life punishing me because every time she looked at me, she saw the mistake she never admitted.

Lily wasn't hated because of who she was.

She was hated because she reminded my mother that lies always leave a face behind.
