Chapter 2 — The Truth Hidden for Twenty Years

Chapter 2 — The Truth Hidden for Twenty Years
Silence swallowed the mansion.
No one dared breathe.
Julian's icy words still echoed through the marble foyer.
"You are leaving today."
Eleanor's perfectly composed smile finally cracked.
"You've lost your mind," she said, forcing a laugh that sounded hollow even to herself. "She's manipulating you."
Julian never looked away from Lily.
Instead, he slowly opened his palm.
The tiny white pearl rested there like a forgotten memory.
His fingers trembled almost imperceptibly.
"I remember this."
His voice was barely above a whisper.
"When I was eight years old, my mother had a necklace made with one unique pearl engraved on the inside."
He carefully turned the pearl.
There it was.
A tiny silver crest.
Their family seal.
Only one necklace like it had ever existed.
Eleanor's face drained of color.
"That's impossible..."
Julian looked at her for the first time.
"Impossible?"
His calm frightened everyone far more than shouting ever could.
"My mother searched for her newborn daughter until the day she died."
Lily stared at him, confused.
"What... are you talking about?"
Julian slowly knelt until they were eye level.
"How old are you?"
"Seven."
"Who raised you?"
"My foster grandmother."
"And your mother?"
Lily swallowed hard.
"I never knew her."
Julian closed his eyes.
The dates.
The pearl.
The family seal.
Everything aligned with terrifying precision.
He stood again.
"Eleanor."
His voice had become dangerously quiet.
"What did you do?"
May you like
For the first time in twenty years...
Eleanor had no answer.
