PART 4 — What Cannot Be Undone

Weeks passed.
Elara’s hair began to grow unevenly, soft and fragile.
She started smiling again—but not fully.
There was still hesitation behind it, like she was testing whether joy was safe.
Selene lost her house.
Not through revenge.
Through exposure.
Financial dependency built on other people’s patience doesn’t survive scrutiny.
I never visited her.
She never called again.
On a quiet Sunday evening, Elara sat beside me on the couch, brushing her uneven hair gently.
“Daddy?”
“Yes?”
“Am I still a princess?”
I looked at her.
At everything she had survived without understanding why she had to.
I answered carefully.
“Not because of your hair,” I said. “Because nothing anyone does can take away who you are.”
She nodded slowly.
Then leaned her head against my shoulder.
Outside, the world continued like nothing had happened.
