Chapter 1: The Truth She Could No Longer Hide
The little girl's smile disappeared.
Her tiny hands slowly let go of the woman's dress.
"But... Daddy said you were coming home," she whispered, her voice cracking.
The woman closed her eyes, fighting the tears threatening to fall.
"Your father lied to you."
Before anyone could speak again, a deep voice echoed through the hallway.
"He didn't lie."
Everyone turned.
Michael stood in the doorway, his suit wrinkled, his face pale from days without sleep.
The little girl ran toward him.
"Daddy! Tell her she's my mommy!"
Michael knelt beside his daughter before looking up at the woman.
"I never stopped loving you, Emma."
Emma's expression hardened.
"You loved controlling me. That's not the same thing."
Silence filled the room.
Michael reached into his jacket and pulled out an old envelope.
"I found this after my father died."
Emma frowned.
"What is it?"
He handed it to her.
Inside was a DNA report.
Emma's hands began to shake.
Twenty years ago...
The hospital had switched two newborn babies.
The woman who had raised Emma wasn't her biological mother.
Neither was the family she'd spent her entire life trying to please.
Every lie...
Every rejection...
Every painful memory...

The room spun as the truth shattered everything she thought she knew.
