CHAPTER 3: A FAMILY REBORN

CHAPTER 3: A FAMILY REBORN

Six months later.

Spring sunlight poured through the windows of the DeLuca estate.

The house sounded different now.

Laughter.

Real laughter.

Leo raced across the garden chasing butterflies.

His tiny legs moved as fast as they could.

"Mommy! Watch me!"

Camryn turned.

The word still caught her by surprise.

At first she corrected him.

Every time.

Eventually she stopped.

Because love was not always about biology.

Sometimes it was about showing up when someone needed you most.

Leo reached her and wrapped his arms around her waist.

Matteo watched from the patio.

A smile appeared on his face.

A rare sight.

One most people in New York would never believe.

The feared mafia boss no longer looked dangerous.

He looked like a father.

And a man deeply in love.

Diane's treatments had begun working.

Her health improved each month.

The crushing medical debt was gone.

The nightmares that haunted Leo slowly faded.

One evening, as the sun disappeared beyond the Hudson River, Matteo led Camryn onto the balcony where their story had truly begun.

The city lights glittered below.

"Do you remember your first day here?" Matteo asked.

Camryn laughed.

"The day your son attacked me with a toy train?"

"The same day he saved me."

She looked at him.

Matteo reached into his pocket.

A small velvet box appeared.

Camryn gasped.

Inside was Isabella's restored gold medallion attached to a diamond ring.

Matteo took her hand.

"You gave my son his voice back."

His voice shook slightly.

"You gave me my family back."

Tears filled Camryn's eyes.

"Camryn Jenkins, will you marry me?"

The answer came before he finished asking.

"Yes."

Behind them, Leo cheered loudly.

"I knew it!"

Everyone laughed.

For the first time in years, there was no fear.

No grief.

No loneliness.

Only family.

Years later, people would tell stories about Matteo DeLuca.

They would speak about the empire he built.

The enemies he defeated.

The fortune he controlled.

But none of those things became his greatest achievement.

His greatest achievement began the day a struggling maid knelt in front of a broken little boy and chose kindness over fear.

Because that single act of compassion changed all of their lives forever.

And in the end, the most powerful thing in the DeLuca empire was never money, power, or fear.

May you like

It was love.
