Chapter 4: The Final Folder
Jonathan rested his hand on the last folder.
The room became silent once again.
Daniel laughed bitterly.
"Go ahead."
Jonathan opened it.
"This folder contains Mrs. Carter's final instruction."
Emma stood.
For the first time all evening, every eye turned toward her.
Jonathan handed her a document.
Emma didn't look down.
She already knew every word.
Years ago, she had paused her own career to support Daniel's ambitions.
She had sacrificed opportunities.
Dreams.
Independence.
Now she was reclaiming them.
She addressed the room.
"Most of you only know me as Daniel Carter's wife."
Her voice remained calm.
"That's who I became."
She paused.
"But it isn't who I am."
The statement carried more power than any shouted accusation.
She signed the final page.
The divorce filing became official.
Jonathan closed the briefcase.
Every document had been revealed.
