CHAPTER 2 — THE HOUSE THAT WAS NEVER YOURS

Linda rushes toward the counter, grabbing the phone as if she can physically undo what she sees.
The camera feed shifts again—now showing legal documents, property titles, and corporate filings.
Every single one bears a name she never expected to see:
The daughter-in-law. Sole controlling shareholder. Owner. Trustee. Final authority.
The man beside Linda whispers, horrified:
“Mom… what did you do?”
But Linda is frozen. Not from confusion—but realization.
She didn’t just insult her daughter-in-law.
She attacked the person who had quietly been holding everything together behind the scenes.
On the screen, the woman’s voice softens—but only slightly.
“I gave you respect because I thought family meant something to you.”
A pause.
“But you confused kindness with weakness.”
The kitchen lights flicker once.
Then twice.
Every smart device in the room disconnects at the same time.
Wi-Fi. Security system. Voice control. All gone.
Linda’s voice drops to a whisper:
“What do you want?”
May you like
The woman on screen answers immediately:
“Truth. And consequences.”
