Chapter 2: A New Beginning
Warm lights surrounded Emma as she entered the enormous house.
A maid brought her fresh clothes. Another prepared hot soup.
Emma hesitated before touching anything.
"Is this really for me?" she asked.
Sophie smiled.
"Everything here is for you tonight."
Emma slowly ate, trying not to cry.
That night, she slept in a real bed.
No wind.
No hunger.
No fear.
Days became weeks.
Weeks became months.
Emma began attending school with Sophie.
The two girls became inseparable.
One afternoon, while they were studying together, Emma asked a question.
"Why did you help me that day?"
Sophie smiled.
"My mom always said that kindness only matters when it's given to someone who truly needs it."
Emma looked out the window.
"If I ever become strong one day, I want to help others too."
Sophie grinned.
"Then promise me you'll do it."
Emma held out her pinky finger.
"I promise."
