Chapter 2: The Name on the Building

The private office doors opened.
Marcus Bennett, the executive director, stepped into the showroom.
Then another executive appeared.
Then another.
Private jewelers.
Regional managers.
Security chiefs.
Senior consultants.
One by one, they formed a line along the marble hallway.
Then every single person bowed their heads.
“Mrs. Grant,” Marcus said respectfully. “We came as soon as you called.”
The entire boutique froze.
Chloe's face lost all its color.
Mrs. Grant.
The name engraved outside the building.
The majority owner.
The founder of Grant & Vale's world-renowned private diamond division.
The woman responsible for building half the empire standing around them.
Chloe suddenly couldn't breathe properly.
“This... this can't be…”
Marcus looked at her.
“Yes, it can.”
Eleanor calmly placed her phone back into her purse.
“You never asked my name.”
Chloe stammered.
“I didn't know…”
Eleanor's eyes became colder than the diamonds surrounding them.
“That is exactly the problem.”
Customers exchanged uncomfortable glances.
Some lowered their eyes.
Others suddenly understood they had witnessed something much bigger than a mistaken identity.
Eleanor wasn't angry because she'd been insulted.
She was disappointed because the culture she had spent decades building was quietly being replaced by arrogance.
She turned toward Marcus.
“How long has this behavior been tolerated?”
Marcus hesitated.
“Longer than it should have been.”
Eleanor nodded once.
“Then we have work to do.”
Chloe's hands trembled.
“Please, Mrs. Grant. Give me another chance.”
But Eleanor wasn't interested in apologies born from fear.

She was interested in truth.
And truth was about to arrive.
