Chapter 2: The Hidden Life of Lina Hart

Chapter 2: The Hidden Life of Lina Hart
The private study of the estate was colder than the ballroom, despite the roaring fireplace.
Old documents were laid across the mahogany desk—sealed letters, faded photographs, and one small velvet box identical in design to the shattered pendant.
The billionaire, Arthur Vale, sat motionless as he read.
“Lina Hart… age 27… last known employment… vanished from public records…”
Arthur’s hands tightened.
“She didn’t vanish,” he muttered. “She was erased.”
The girl stood quietly beside him, still clutching a torn piece of the broken necklace chain someone had returned to her.
“Was my mommy important?” she asked softly.
Arthur closed his eyes.
“She was more than important,” he said. “She was my daughter.”
A heavy silence fell.
The words didn’t make sense at first—not even to him.
But the truth had been buried too long to stay hidden any longer.
He opened an old photograph.
Two young people stood smiling beside each other—Arthur and Lina, both holding matching silver necklaces.
“I lost her…” he whispered. “Because I believed a lie.”
Footsteps echoed behind him.
The socialite entered the room, her voice sharper now, desperate.
“This is ridiculous. You’re letting a child manipulate you over broken jewelry!”
Arthur slowly turned toward her.
And for the first time that night, there was no warmth left in his eyes at all.
“Do you know who Lina Hart was to me?” he asked quietly.
The socialite hesitated.
Arthur stood.
“She was my daughter.”
