CHAPTER 3: The Birthday That Became a New Beginning

Three months later, life looked completely different.

Victoria canceled her lavish social calendar.

For the first time in years, money was no longer the center of her world.

Family was.

She purchased a beautiful home near her own house for Amelia.

But Amelia refused expensive gifts.

She only wanted time.

The time they had lost.

Every Sunday, they cooked breakfast together.

They laughed over childhood memories.

They cried over the years that could never be returned.

One evening, Victoria stood in the kitchen decorating a birthday cake.

Amelia walked in and smiled.

“You're doing it wrong.”

Victoria laughed.

“Then show me.”

Amelia took the frosting bag.

Just like when they were children.

Just like twenty years ago.

Later that night, they placed candles on the cake.

Victoria turned off the lights.

The room glowed warmly.

Amelia smiled.

Then whispered the same five words one more time.

“Happy birthday, sister.”

Victoria began crying immediately.

But this time, they were happy tears.

She hugged Amelia tightly.

“I'll never lose you again.”

Amelia smiled.

“You won't.”

Outside the window, snow gently fell over the Ashford estate.

For twenty years, Victoria had believed she lost her sister forever.

She had wealth.

Power.

Luxury.

Everything money could buy.

Yet she had still been empty.

Because the one thing she needed most had never been money.

It had always been family.

And sometimes, life gives people a second chance in the most unexpected way.
