Part 1: The Perfect Family's Perfect Lie

Elena quickly learned that the Hawthorne estate was nothing like the luxurious paradise it appeared to be.

The mansion operated with military precision. Every employee followed strict rules. Every hallway was monitored by discreet security cameras. Every conversation seemed carefully measured, as if everyone feared saying the wrong thing.

Only one place remained strangely untouched.

The nursery.

Her first meeting with eight-year-old Ethan Hawthorne lasted less than five minutes.

The boy sat quietly beside the window, staring toward the harbor instead of playing with the expensive toys surrounding him. Shelves overflowed with books and designer games, yet everything remained perfectly organized, almost untouched.

When Elena gently introduced herself, Ethan barely looked at her.

"My last nanny disappeared," he said softly.

Elena forced a small smile.

"I'm sure she found another job."

Ethan slowly shook his head.

"No."

He looked directly into her eyes.

"She wasn't allowed to come back."

Before Elena could ask what he meant, Mrs. Hawthorne entered the room with flawless timing.

"Ethan has a vivid imagination," she said pleasantly.

But her cold stare toward the boy told a very different story.

That evening, Elena unpacked her belongings in the small staff bedroom on the third floor.

As she organized her clothes, she noticed something unusual.

Inside the closet, carved into the wooden wall behind a row of coats, someone had scratched a single sentence:

DON'T TRUST THEM.

The letters were deep, uneven, and clearly written in desperation.

Before she could examine them further, a housekeeper suddenly appeared in the doorway.

"You should get some sleep," the woman whispered nervously.

Then she looked toward the hallway before adding,

"And never stay near the nursery after midnight."

Without another word, she hurried away.

For the first time since arriving, Elena realized she wasn't simply working for a wealthy family.

She was living inside their secret.
