CHAPTER 3: THE MAN WHO LOST EVERYTHING

Three days later, we tracked him.
An abandoned shipping terminal in Brooklyn.
Hundreds of federal agents surrounded the building.
I entered wearing a bulletproof vest.
Inside stood Sebastian Volkov.
Tall.
Calm.
Smiling.
“You finally came,” he said.
I stared at him.
“You ruined my life.”
He smiled.
“No.”
He shook his head.
“I created it.”
The arrogance was unbelievable.
“You built an empire because of pain.”
“You became stronger because of loss.”
“You became extraordinary because I broke you.”
I felt my fists clench.
Then he made his mistake.
He smiled.
“And now I’ll take your sons.”
Something inside me snapped.
Before he could move, agents stormed the building.
Chaos erupted.
Volkov tried to run.
He never made it.
Federal officers tackled him to the ground.
Handcuffs clicked around his wrists.
And just like that…
The monster who stole eight years of our lives was finished.
Months later, life looked completely different.
For the first time in years, my penthouse felt like a home instead of a museum.
Toys filled the living room.
Backpacks sat by the door.
There were soccer cleats in places they didn’t belong.
Noise.
Laughter.
Life.
Emma moved back in.
Slowly.
Carefully.
We didn't rush.
We rebuilt.
One day at a time.
One evening, Lucas climbed onto my lap.
“Daddy?”
“Yeah?”
“Are we staying forever?”
I looked around the room.
Emma was helping Noah with homework.
Sunlight poured through the windows.
My family.
The family I thought I'd never have.
I smiled.
“Yes.”
Lucas grinned.
“Promise?”
I kissed the top of his head.
“I promise.”
Years ago, doctors told me biological fatherhood was impossible.
Turns out they were wrong.
But life wasn't giving me a second chance.
Life was giving me a first chance.
Because sometimes the greatest miracles don't arrive when you're ready.
Sometimes they run into your lobby screaming, “Daddy!”
May you like
And when they do…
You never let them go again.
