Chapter 2: The Unexpected Visitor

Three days later, a black SUV stopped outside the Harper family's small home.
Clara nearly dropped the groceries she was carrying.
Alexander Vale himself stepped out.
Lucy froze.
The billionaire looked far less confident than he had at the gala.
"I owe your daughter an apology," he said quietly.
Neither Clara nor Lucy spoke.
Alexander continued.
"My son hasn't stopped talking about her."
He paused before correcting himself.
"Signing about her."
Matthew climbed out of the SUV carrying a notebook.
On the first page he had written:
Can Lucy be my friend?
Lucy's face lit up.
Clara looked uncertain.
Alexander sighed.
"I've spent years giving Matthew every advantage money could buy."
His voice softened.
"I never realized what he actually needed."
Not expensive tutors.

Not private schools.
A friend.
